Just a little Fun pt.2

Sometimes your greatest critic is yourself. At least in my case. I mentioned in part 1 of this post that I can be a bit of an over thinker. Part of that is second guessing myself and disregarding my own ideas. As part of the Miss Bahamas and B.T.V.I. collaboration, designers were asked to design and create 2 looks for the contestants. The first look was a straight dress for the motorcade (discussed in the last post) and the second was an avant-garde piece. I was both excited and apprehensive about creating the second look. However, before I could even find out any details, I started to second guess myself. I had never created an avant-garde look before! Do I even have what it takes?

Just a little fun pt. 1

Sometimes I surprise myself. Last year, I was invited to be a part of a collaboration between the Miss Bahamas Organization and The Bahamas Technical & Vocational Institute (B.T.V.I). When I got invited to be a part of this event, I decided even before hearing anything about it that I was just going to have fun. I tend to sometimes take myself a bit too seriously (no surprise for the people who know me). I have a tendency to check rules/regulations or overthink a situation until I stress myself out. This time, I decided to just have fun and to ask no questions.

Let me introduce myself

My name is Myrlande Julien and I am a shy, sarcastic, socially awkward ambivert who loves to create bold and beautiful designs. My love for fashion started a very long time ago as a young girl in primary school. What started out as an obsession with making doll clothes- that lasted way too long as far as my family was concerned- turned into what I am today: a fashion designer.

For many years, I struggled with owning who I am and my place in the fashion industry; so much so that I had contemplated leaving it for a good.
