Micro Wedding... What is that?

Recently I had the pleasure of working with some very talented people for a styled non-traditional micro-wedding themed shoot. Before 2018, I had never heard of a micro-wedding; but now it's 2020 and I am seeing them everywhere.  As we know, we are in the middle of a pandemic that has literally put a lot of events on pause.  But for the people who wish to continue with their plans to get married regardless of Covid-19, a micro wedding is probably the way to go. With this in mind, I decided to do a bit of research and here is what I discovered:

A micro-wedding, not to be confused with an elopement is a more intimate event with 20 or less guests. It is very similar to a traditional wedding in that it contains all the same elements e.g. venue, decor, cake, photographer etc.  A micro-wedding takes planning and can be as beautiful and special as a traditional wedding just with a smaller guest list.

Having a more intimate wedding does not mean that you have to sacrifice the things that you always dreamed of for your wedding day. You can still have your dream dress and venue, favorite flowers, and first dance but you get to spend it with the people who truly matter to you.

Things to consider

  • Budget: One of the highest costs for weddings is food and drinks. Less guests equal lower costs. You can splurge on other aspects of your wedding like your dress (wink, wink), pictures, flowers and a honeymoon. You can be more flexible when choosing a venue, entertainment, decor, and details you think would enhance your wedding.

  • Guests: You will have to leave some people off of the guest list but that also means you can spend quality time with the ones that do get to attend so choose wisely.

  • Bridal Party: Because the guest list is low, you can opt out of a bridal party or just choose 1 special person to stand with you.

  • Don’t forgo professional help: A good wedding planner can successfully plan your wedding and ensure that everything runs smoothly. Although you may think a smaller wedding is easier to plan, there may be things that you forget or find overwhelming. Hire a great photographer to memorialize your special day no matter the size of the event.

  • Make it personal to you: Include aspects that speak to who you are as a couple. You can personalize it to reflect your relationship and your story together

At the end of the day, it is the couple getting married that matters. The wedding is about you and it should reflect you and no one else. Remember that when making your plans.
